課程概述

這是生物學入門課程,一門引導你探討生命現象的科學,上學期主要涉及動物學;下學期為植物學。內容涵蓋分子、細胞、組織、器官和各系統的結構與功能、生命的遺傳、生物的分類、生命的起源及演化、以及生態與保育等主題,是現代人必須具備之基本知識。本課程以講演的方式,配合投影片、影片,深入淺出的介紹每一主題的重要概念與最新發展。課程內容將讓你能夠在未來修讀更深入的生物學主題。我們隨時歡迎您的建議。
This is an introductory biology course. The fall semester will deal mainly with animal biology, and the spring semester plant biology. The materials covered will prepare you for advance topics in biology. We hope you will find something you want to pursuit in the future. All lectures will be given in Chinese, with English power-point presentations. The instructors can only guide you. Much of what you will learn is your own work, yet we are here to assist you. We welcome your suggestions anytime. 

課程目標
學生能對生命現象有一基礎認知,繼而引發學生對生命科學的興趣,繼續進修相關的高階課程;並能從生命的奧妙中體會生命的意義。 
課程要求
Your grades will be based on the following components:
Quizzes: We will give quizzes every week. There is no big exam per se in the fall semester. We do not give make-up quizzes unless you have a good reason.
Homework: We will give several homework assignments over the semester, and do not accept late homework. Details of the homework will be given in the class.
Attendance: Do not skip classes. You need to come to the classes to earn credits for your grades.

The total points you collect from quizzes and homework will be prorated to a 100-points scale. We will use a normal distribution scale to evaluate the whole class.

Please note that the instructors in the spring semester (2014) may have a different course policy.
